  • How Do YOU Get Consistent Quality Poops?

    There are 7 types of Poop (see picture below — click it to enlarge):

    1 – Constipated (nuggets),
    2 – Lumpy (Logs)
    3 – Crackly (Cigars)
    4 – Smooth (Snake)
    5 – Loose (Soft-Serve)
    6 – Mushy (Messy)
    7 – Runny Diarrhea (Liquid)

    Many BMs are combinations of these.

    Which is your favorite type to do, and what, if anything do you do to maintain a consistent quality of your poop?

    For me a day when I produce type 2 is always a good one. Feels good when I’m sat there and they look visually impressive

    My favourite are hands down type 2 logs, those who come out slowly and need some pushing. Type 3 are fine too. It is my usual type now. Type 4 is dull, and I hate type 5,6 and 7.

    I don’t believe in taking any special foods to make my poops harder. What comes out must be the natural result of what you have eaten, not sought after.

    Ahhh… the good old Bristol Stool Chart. I heard about it on a podcast about 10 years ago. The host was fairly amused by it, especially once he discovered that there was a Hardcore Punk band called Bristol 7 (unfortunately Google can’t find them).

    My type all depends on what kind of poo I am in the mood for. I used to eat sugar free sweets to give me diarrhoea. Mainly because I wanted poos that could easily force their way out as accidents. I still give myself diarrhoea occasionally, but I generally prefer something around a 3. They’re firm enough to make my bum feel good on the way out, but soft enough to be an exciting accident risk.

    I also enjoy regular super-soft “too much metamucil” poo accidents. Ideally, I’d prefer that they be a bit firmer, but they make up for it with their significantly larger size and ability to cause accidents.

    My favorites are types 2, 3 and 4, and most of the time my poop’s consistency is 3 or 4 or sort of in between those, and sometimes 5. Very rarely do I have types 1 or 2, because I eat a LOT of fiber/fruit and poop almost every day.

    I usually perform a consistent 2 or 3. Since I don’t go every day I have an extremely mild form of constipation most of the time because my diet is largely ketogenic. So while there’s inulin fiber from the raw leafy veggies, it’s not enough to make softer stool that passes daily. Every doctor I’ve asked says going only 3x a week is totally fine due to these circumstances but to add fiber pills if it gets less frequent than that.

    The way I attain such consistency is a complete lack of sugars and starches in my diet essentially. So every couple days, I wake up with a very distinct urge to poop, and after making sure a nice pair of briefs are in place to catch it, I simply open my legs and gently relax my bowels and the logs push out with almost zero effort. The BM is so thick and waxy it barely stains the cotton briefs even after wearing them for an hour or so. So it’s not to say I don’t sometimes have a bit of diarrhea, poops that are very soft like that only occur every few months and clear up within a day or so.

    I guess the secret is to have a rather consistent diet, or a range of foods that provide a fairly similar “result” in the end… for someone like me who likes having a varied diet however, consistency doesn’t happen too often! LOL I have a range 😉

    I try and go for the second one, there’s nothing better than a nice hard log sliding into my pants.

    I always do two logs at a time. When I can dump a third one down then I REALLY get excited because I have done the biggest and my pants are tented down.

    I’ve been taking psyllium husk for nearly a year now, and it’s been a miracle. I always fill 1/3 of a coffee cup of psyllium husk and add water and mix like heck.

    The psyllium turns into a super thick undrinkable gel rather quickly, so once ALL the psyllium is wet (no dry husks!) drink it as fast as you can! If it starts to thicken then add more water! It usually takes me another 2 refills of water to get the single ‘dose’ all down.

    I do that twice a day (in the morning usually) and the next morning I have a massive and ‘clean’ poop that doesn’t stick or stain underwear. It usually lacks a smell and is between 3 and 4 on the scale.

    IMHO its perfect for consistent pants pooping~

    Consistency of excrement is alien to my entire family.
    My favorite type of dooey to do is a 3 or 4. Speaking as a mum, one who has to monitor bowel movements, my favorite type to observe is when my girls do a mixture of 3, 4 and/or 5.
    When there’s been a constipation / improper evacuation episode, where enemas or suppositories had to be given, in a short space of time the girls may do me the whole spectrum of dooeys from 1 and 2 to (post-enema) 6 and 7.
