I’m a huge fan of the show Bob’s Burgers, and i don’t know, maybe it’s just my dirty mind, but it seems to me that farting and pooping are very frequently focal points or jokes on the show. Just to name a few:

    – A mention of the time Gayle pooped her pants in a cell phone store
    – When Louise pooped in a pool to try to get out of a synchronized swimming performance
    – A home video of Tina as a toddler singing goodbye to her turd in the toilet, then crying after it flushed
    away (priceless)
    – The “Mad Pooper” episode, where someone was pooping in various places all over the school

I have a theory that the show’s writers, or creator (Loren Bouchard, if i’m not mistaken), or possibly even the actors, who are given some creative liberty and input on the show, or some combination of the above, have at least a bit of a poop fixation, if not a straight-up fetish.

Would love to hear if anyone else has also noticed the abundance of poop and fart jokes, and whether or not you agree with my theory, or if you have a different spin on BB and poop. Please also share some of your favorite Bob’s Burgers poop or fart moments (or hell, any other moments too. The show’s great, and I love talking about it), i think it would be kinda cool if we collectively gathered a fairly exhaustive list of the poop and fart jokes, i’m betting it would end up pretty long.

Or maybe it’s just that those shows are geared towards viewers who enjoy toilet humor. Just look at all the dumb shit we have on YouTube. Everything is a fart or poop joke.

You might be right, Jason, maybe it is just that simple. But I’m inclined to think that Bob’s Burgers is a special case, because of the sheer volume of the poop and fart references, and I don’t think I’ve ever seen any other show that does it so much. Ren and Stimpy from the 90’s is about the closest I’ve ever seen, and i think even that isn’t very close. I don’t watch Youtube that much, mostly to figure out how to do things, so i don’t watch the “viral videos” that most people do, and I don’t know how much toilet humor is on there.

Bob’s Burgers, on the other hand, seems to figure in poop or fart stuff…I don’t know, probably at least every other episode. It certainly doesn’t shy away from perversity and psychodrama in general As I understand it, the show was originally envisioned where the burgers were made of human flesh. There are also double-entendre jokes and other subtle jokes that hint at incest and other discomforting topics. There was an episode for example, where it’s revealed that Gene was using Linda’s (his mom’s, in case anyone reading hasn’t seen the show) menstrual pads (unused, presumably) as a comfort object, like a security blanket, and she actually encouraged it. (Spoiler alert) Just last episode, Teddy bribed one of Jimmy Pesto’s employees to steal his underwear from his gym bag, and brought it to Bob to try and get him to put it on. When Bob asked if they were at least clean, Teddy presses them to his face, takes an unnecessarily HUGE whiff, and says, “Nope”.

So for me at least, it’s not a far stretch to think there’s something more going on with BB than than simple elementary school-level toilet humor.
